TUSIAD: "The US Presidential Election Process Displays an Exemplary Culture of Democracy"

TUSIAD has issued the following press release regarding the conclusion of the Presidential elections in the United States:

“In the eyes of the world public opinion, the United States of America has been the cradle of representative democracy, even in the toughest economic and social conditions, since the publication of Alexis de Tocqueville’s “Democracy in America”.  In an environment analogous to the period of the 1929 crisis, the American people, with foresight and political maturity, after a long campaign weighing the country’s problems in depth, chose Barack Hussein Obama as the 44th President of the United States.  The U.S., during this campaign, has demonstrated a commendable election process to the world in terms of the use of individual and collective liberties.

Moreover, the election of President Obama, who was born with a white mother and a black father, also characterizes a very good example of a culture of tolerance and understanding in the American society.

For Turkey, the lesson learned is that, in order for solutions to the country’s problems, as far as democracy fosters hope, hope also invigorates democracy.  We wish the new U.S. President success.”
