TUSIAD-US Hosts Roundtable Discussion Titled: “Turkish Diplomacy in Cyprus: Changes and Continuities in the Practice of Nationalism”

On Monday, March 5, 2007, TUSIAD-US hosted a well-attended roundtable discussion titled, “Turkish Diplomacy in Cyprus: Changes and Continuities in the Practice of Nationalism” with guest speaker, Professor Gul Inanc. Professor Inanc is currently an Assistant Professor of History at Eastern Mediterranean University at Famagusta, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The presentation gave a historical overview of the parallel developments in Turkish foreign policy and Turkish nationalism starting from 1950. Professor Inanc’s presentation was followed by numerous questions from the attendees on various subjects relating to Cyprus including the impact of demographics on the issue of reunification, the impact of Greek nationalism on a lasting settlement, as well as speculation about when a lasting settlement will take hold and the conditions for such a settlement.
